ReadPep does not collect, store, transmit, sell, or share your AI conversations, voice recordings, browsing history, or any other personal data. Everything happens on your Mac. The only outbound call we make is a one-time license check.
ReadPep is a Mac app plus a browser extension that reads your AI chat responses (from ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, Perplexity, and Mistral) aloud through the Kokoro text-to-speech engine running locally on your computer. The voice synthesis happens on your Mac. The audio never leaves your machine.
Nothing about you or your activity. Specifically:
The browser extension calls our license verification server (pepinlabs.workers.dev/v1/verify) one time when the extension is first activated, to confirm your license key. The request body contains only the cryptographic signature of your license — no PII, no usage data, no telemetry. If the verification succeeds, the extension stores the verification result locally and never calls our server again.
Subsequent license checks happen entirely offline using Ed25519 signature verification. We don't know how often you use ReadPep, what you read, when you use it, or whether it's even still installed.
The extension communicates with the ReadPep Mac app via http://127.0.0.1:7860 — that's your own computer talking to itself. The sentences pulled from your AI chat are POSTed to your local TTS endpoint, synthesized into audio on your machine, and played back through your audio device. Nothing about this transaction leaves your computer.
ReadPep is not directed at children under 13. We don't collect data from anyone, so this is somewhat moot, but stated explicitly per COPPA.
If we ever change how data flows in ReadPep, this page changes first, and the change is announced in the app's changelog before any new version ships. We're a small Minnesota team. We don't have a marketing department. Quiet honesty is the whole brand.
